Materials

• 1 skein Bernat Super Saver (100% acrylic; 382 yds/350 m per 7 oz/197 g) in Medium Sea Green
• 1 skein Red Heart Super Saver (100% acrylic; 364 yds/333 m per 7 oz/198 g) in Light Raspberry, color # 0774
• Substitution: For hat � about 110 yds/100 m worsted weight yarn (CYCA #4)
• 6mm (size J) and 3.5mm (size E) hooks, or sizes needed to obtain gauge
• Yarn needle

Gauge

4 (double crochet, chain 1) = 2 1/4�
3 rows of double crochet = 2″
Flower: 1 top petal = 1 1/4�, 1 bottom petal = 1 1/2�, green center = 1�

Special Stitches

V�stitch: (double crochet, chain 1, double crochet) in same space.
Picot: Chain 2, slip stich in second chain from hook, skip next single crochet, slip stitch in next single crochet.

Hat

With larger hook and Medium Sea Green yarn, chain 5, slip stitch in first chain to form a ring.

Round 1: Chain 4 (counts as 1st double crochet and chain 1 here and throughout pattern) *double crochet in ring, chain 1; repeat from * 10 more times, slip stitch in top of beginning chain-4 to join�12 double crochets.

Round 2: Slip stitch in first chain-1 space, chain 4, double crochet in same space as slip stitch, *chain 1, (double crochet, chain 1, double crochet) in next chain-1 space (V-stitch made; see Special Stitches, above); repeat from * around ending with chain 1, slip stitch in top of beginning chain-4 to join�24 double crochets.

Round 3: Slip stitch in first chain-1 space, chain 4, *double crochet in next chain-1 space, chain 1; repeat from * around ending with slip stitch in top of beginning chain-4�24 double crochets.

Round 4: Slip stitch in first chain-1 space, chain 4, double crochet in same chain-1 space, * (chain 1, double crochet in next chain-1 space) 3 times, chain 1, V-stitch in next chain-1 space (one increase made); repeat from * around ending with chain 1, slip stitch in top of beginning chain-4 to join�30 double crochets.

Rounds 5 � 8: Repeat Round 3�30 double crochets in each round.

Edging

Chain 1, single crochet in each double crochet and chain-1 space around (this includes a single crochet in same space as slip stitch), slip stitch in first single crochet to join�60 single crochets.

Next Round � Picots: *Chain 2, slip stitch in second chain from hook (picot made; see Special Stitches, above), skip next single crochet, slip stitch in next single crochet; repeat from * around ending with slip stitch in last single crochet to join. Fasten off.

Flower

With larger hook and Light Raspberry yarn, chain 4, slip stitch in first chain to form foundation ring.

Round 1: Chain 1, 12 single crochet in ring, slip stitch in first single crochet to join�12 single crochets.

Round 2: *Chain 3, skip next single crochet, single crochet through the front loop only in next single crochet; repeat from * around.

Round 3: *Slip stitch in foundation ring, (single crochet, 4 double crochet, single crochet) in next chain-3 space; repeat from * around ending with slip stitch in foundation ring�6 petals.

Round 4: *Single crochet in unused back loop of single crochet below next petal, chain 4; repeat from * around ending with slip stitch in first single crochet to join.

Round 5: *(Single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, 3 treble crochet, double crochet, half double crochet, single crochet) in next chain-4 space; repeat from * around, slip stitch in first single crochet to join. Fasten off.

Green Center for Flower

With smaller hook and Medium Sea Green yarn, chain 2, work 8 single crochet in first chain, slip stitch in first single crochet to join, pull on tail to tighten the ring.

Next Round: Chain 1, single crochet in each single crochet around, slip stitch in first single crochet to join. Fasten off, leaving a 10″ tail.

Finishing Instructions

Sew green center to middle of flower using long tail and yarn needle. Sew flower to side of hat with yarn and yarn needle. Weave in all loose ends.
